Why have your gutters cleaned?
Guttering systems are an essential part of any property or building. They are there to capture and control the flow of rain water from the roof and then dispense this water towards a down pipe. This down pipe distributes the water down into a drain directly below the pipe and completely clears the roof and also the guttering system from water.
Guttering systems can certainly be taken for granted, and a blocked or faulty gutter can cause a whole manner of issues that can lead to an expensive fix. We are always surprised by the damage that can be caused by blocked gutters and both the interior and exterior of your home can be affected.
Here are 5 reasons why you should have your gutters cleaned at least once a year:
Damage to your roof
One of the most common things we find is damage to the roof of properties. If your guttering is blocked and water continually flows over and out onto your roof, then over time you will find a build up of rot. Once this starts you can expect to see corrosion of wood and tiles and this will be a fix that you really will not want to pay out for!
Keep pests away
The more clogged up your gutters get the more appealing they become to birds and other pets! The leaves, moss and sticks that build up are like hotels to such critters and before you know it you have a whole manner of different wildlife moving in!
Damage to your garden
If you have any kind of flower beds directly below your blocked guttering then its quite possible that they will become overwatered. A blocked gutter will build up the rain water over time and spill out over your flowering pride and joys! Too much water will simply kill your garden beds and flowers!
Bracket Damage
Your gutters are help on by plastic brackets. The build up of water and debris can get get very heavy over time and it can cause your guttering to sink. This exertion of pressure on your brackets can cause them to break! This may sound like a simply fix but you may need to then pay someone to climb up a ladder or even hire scaffolding to repair the broken brackets.
Foundation damage
Water is one of natures most notoriously under estimated elements. It’s incredible what damage it can do to the most solid of materials. Constant flow of water from a damaged gutter onto the ground can make its way deep into the foundations of your property. In winter, if that water was to freeze then the foundations of your house can expand and crack.
